Language Arts-Writing

In the Language Arts-Writing module, students will demonstrate and apply their knowledge of the elements of written English (parts of speech, grammar usage, and sentence structure). The individual lessons will explain how to identify and use parts of speech, and will teach proper capitalization and punctuation. Guidance will also be provided for understanding sentence structure, and learning how to properly combine sentences and use apostrophes and hyphens.

In subsequent units, students will apply their knowledge of how to combine sentences to develop paragraphs. In addition, exercises will be presented in building vocabulary, identifying confusing words, making proper word choice, and writing complete sentences.

You will demonstrate and apply your knowledge in writing paragraphs. Here, you will learn to identify the characteristics of a well-written essay and actually practice writing an essay. Your instructor will provide feedback and guidance to help you continue to improve this process.

These specialized lessons will prepare you for answering the multiple-choice questions on the GED writing exam. It will also provide insight into the examiner’s scoring process for the essay that you will be required to write in part two of the Language Arts-Writing exam.
