Application/Scores/Testing Sites
To take the GED Tests in Maryland, applicants must be at least 16 years old, not be a high school graduate, have been a Maryland resident for at least three months at the time of testing, and have been officially withdrawn from a regular high school program for at least three months. Information on waivers for withdrawal and residency requirements can be obtained by contacting the GED office at the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. For applications and additional information about the test, call 410-767-0538.
To sit for the test there is a $45 scheduling fee made payable to the GED Office, as well as specific eligibility requirements outlined on the application. The fee must accompany the application.
Test results are generally mailed within six to eight weeks after taking the test. In accordance with the Privacy Act (Buckley Amendment, Privacy Rights and Confidentiality), results will not be released over the telephone or faxed. The test scores of all GED examinees are confidential. Written permission is required from the examinee before any testing information may be released.
To qualify for the Maryland High School Diploma, a candidate must earn a standard score of 410 or above on each of the five tests, and an average score of 450 on all five tests.
Generally, further study is recommended for test subjects in which a candidate earns a standard score of 410 or below. Candidates are encouraged to contact local adult education programs to obtain information on classes.
