To take the GED Tests in Illinois, applicants must be 18 years of age or older, maintained residence in the state for at least 30 days, are not high school graduates, but whose high school class has graduated. There are some exceptions to this requirement, and individuals should contact the local Regional Office of Education to determine their eligibility to take the GED Tests.

There is a $35 application fee to take the GED Tests, which includes issuance of the Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate upon successful completion of the GED Tests and Constitution examination. An applicant who fails to make the required scores on the GED Tests has the option of taking the entire battery or the individual test that was failed (retest fees apply).

In Illinois, GED candidates must achieve a standard score of 410 or above on each of the five tests and a total standard score of 2250 or above on the entire battery (average score of 450 on each test).
